Janet Cooper
Is your child struggling with big emotions, anxiety, meltdowns, or behaviors that seem to take over your entire household? Maybe you are constantly managing outbursts, worry, school problems, or emotional ups and downs and aren’t sure what else to try. You know your child could benefit from counseling, but finding quality therapy that also fits your family’s budget can be difficult.
I am a Graduate Counseling Intern passionate about helping children, teens, and families better understand what is happening underneath difficult emotions and behaviors. I believe children do well when they have a safe place to express themselves, learn new skills, and feel understood—and parents deserve support and practical tools along the way.
When working with children, I use developmentally appropriate approaches that allow kids to communicate in ways that feel natural to them. I am currently completing additional training in play therapy and learning to incorporate play-based interventions to help children express feelings, build emotional regulation skills, develop confidence, and practice healthier ways of responding to challenges.
With teens, I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where they can talk openly about anxiety, stress, relationships, school, family conflict, and the many emotions that come with adolescence. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, with an emphasis on helping young people develop practical coping skills and greater confidence in managing their emotions and everyday challenges.
My background includes supporting children and families impacted by sexual abuse through a Children’s Justice Center, working with at-risk high school students, and training in parent and family education. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate care and to partnering with parents as an important part of helping children succeed.
As a graduate counseling intern, I am able to provide **lower-cost counseling and sliding-scale services** for families who may otherwise struggle to access therapy. My goal is to provide families with compassionate, high-quality support while completing my clinical training under the supervision and guidance of experienced clinicians at Katy Counseling.
## Affordable Counseling for Children & Teens
Quality counseling should be accessible to families who need it. Janet provides **low-cost counseling with sliding-scale options available**, making therapy for children and teens more affordable while providing services under clinical supervision.
If your child is struggling with anxiety, difficult behaviors, or emotions that feel too big to manage, counseling can provide a place to understand what is happening and begin building skills that work both in and outside of the therapy room.
